PA state layoffs criticized

HARRISBURG, PA — Democratic lawmakers in Harrisburg are blaming Senate Republicans for not addressing legislation that would have provided funding for some of the state’s unemployment claim centers.

Because of the lack of a vote House Democratic Leader Frank Dermody said that some 600 unemployment workers would be furloughed and there would be reduced services for thousands of unemployed Pennsylvanians.  Read more

Foundry42, a new space in Port Jervis

PORT JERVIS, NY — In the newly opened Foundry42 store on Front Street in Port Jervis, one will find artworks by locals, many of which are made or will be made on the premises. Music by local musicians, workshops, and other entertainment are also in the plans for the venue.

Election board hears challenge complaint

HONESDALE, PA — Republican Committee member Robert Timozek said he had repeatedly fielded residents’ questions about the legal residence of two voters who having been voting at the District One polling place in Damascus for several years. Timozek followed up on Election Day by challenging the unnamed voters, but he didn’t do it until after they had voted, which disqualified his challenge.  Read more

Students highlight DV session

WESTFALL, PA — Students and parents jammed the board room at the Delaware Valley (DV) administration building last week as members of two athletic teams and two student programs were introduced.

First up were fourth and fifth graders from Dingman-Delaware Elementary School (DDES) participating in the “Leader in Me” program with the goal of reaching more than 3,000 schools around the world that have been named as, or are applying toward being named as “Lighthouse Schools.”  Read more

Cuomo calls for end to hate crimes

ALBANY, NY — Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued a statement on November 17, calling for an end to the rising incidents of hate crimes.

The statement said, “Hate crimes have spiked across the country and this state has not been spared. Last night, fliers glorifying the KKK were found distributed on cars in Patchogue. This morning, a swastika was discovered on the B train in Manhattan. These are just the latest incidents. My administration has launched a number of investigations into hate crimes targeting minorities and immigrants.  Read more
